  • MCS can't find U2

When I do a "Compile and Program", MCS searches for a programmer, and can't find the U2 programmer. I am using PBP3 and the beta software in the U2. Any help will be appreciated.

Is the programmer software installed on the C: drive?
Is Microcode Studio installed on the C: drive?

In Microcode Studio, go to View > Compile and Program Options.
Under Programmer Options, make sure "microEngineering Labs programmer" is selected.
    Click the "Edit" button.
    Programmer Filename: meprog.exe
    Next
    Click "Find Manually"
Point it to the folder where your beta version is installed.
    Next
    Finished
    PBP3 Manual : Microchip Datasheets - 10F, 12F, 16F, 18F
Never download a PIC datasheet from anywhere but microchip.com

All is well now. Under "VIEW, COMPILE AND PROGRAM OPTIONS" in MCS, you can select the programmer you are using. Changing this fixed the "can't find U2" problem, but did not fix the programming problem. It seems I have to OPEN the compiled file, then it programs just fine. My other computer didn't have this requirement, it just passed the file to the programmer automatically. I don't know why, but at least I am able to write programs, compile, and program on the W7 computer now.
