  • Finding Fundamental

I'm trying to discover the fundamental partial of an audio wave (microphone in will do). Only need the fundamental. Two methods come to mind; FFT or Zero Crossing.
Has anyone done any work on either of these? The Zero Crossing is particularly attractive but using the comparators slew rate on my chosen PIC (PIC16F886@16Mhz) may be shy of doing anything in real time but maybe I'm wrong about that..
Any suggestions are appreciated. I'm on PBP3.

Perhaps try using an external comparator. Feed the output to your Capture (CCP). With the external comparator, you won't miss a beat. Using Capture in Asynchronous Mode will allow for more accurate counts.
We can crack this cotton PIC'n thang!

Thanks MIke. I'll look into it.
