GPS Receiver Interface

We have been looking at using PicBasic Pro to connect to a GPS to log speed. Any suggestions on GPS receiver? Most of our attempts have been based around using the SkyTraq Venus line of GPS receivers. Although we have had limited success, I wanted to know if others have experimented with any other brands/makes?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
